PEGGY MORRISS VINEYARD

“I love to paint for the pure joy and reward of creating something beautiful and exciting.”

My paintings most often start with a feeling, thought or inclination, without a guided purpose or vision. Each painting is created entirely from my imagination and deep unconscious feelings which allows me to free up my mind and work entirely from my intuition. My creative process involves my whole being and it allows me to travel to another realm of thinking and feeling.

I find color intoxicating. It allows me to become submerged in the process where each brushstroke and mark dictates what I do next. Over time the painting process becomes a dance- like battle, similar to the matador and his bull. The energy and movements of the dance become part of the surface and the experimentation and happy accidents that occur along the way only enrich the experience.

As the layers continue to build new ideas and images emerge. Together in tandem with the painting, the surface builds and I become fully engaged in the process and more mindful of what the painting might want to express.

The complex surface hidden within the underpainting keeps the viewer mystified, encouraging them to look and see in a new way — ultimately leading them to create their own personal connection to the painting.

My paintings reflect a certain intellect, humor and interest. This magical creative endeavor makes me aware of the endless possibilities of ideas which will continue to feed my curiosity and result in more wonderful paintings."
